Welcome to Complexus!
Greetings from the Chair
We have come a long way since 2020 when the very first idea of our charity was born.
For many of us, the pandemic brought uncertainty, anxiety, even loss of our loved ones, but foremost loneliness in that never-ending, forced isolation. No wonder it took toll on our physical and mental health. Many lost their jobs, financial resources became scarce in lot of families, and we had to keep going while, underneath the surface, a wide range of mental difficulties started to settle in and numbing down our willpower for anything really.
As a former teacher, linguist and SEN professional, but also as a person who has been struggling with long-standing, complex medical difficulties, I was strongly convinced that by joining professional experience and effort with few good friends, together we would be able to find the way out of those depressing times.
This aim soon grew into something much bigger, so that, all of a sudden, it seemed to be perfect for serving the benefit of our closer and wider community, just as well. Since then, we have been continually working on extending our lists of services and activities depending on our community’s needs.
Although Complexus was registered as a CIO only in 2023, our team of trustees had already been doing thorough research into the priority needs of the community and was trying to find the types of services that would be most appropriate for relieving their difficulties. We were also working on creating activities and events that could bring the members of our community back together, provide them with a sense of belonging, and help them advance their personal and/or professional skills — all of this through having fun and through the experience of feeling hopeful again.
Our purpose – Complexus promotes social inclusion for the public benefit among people from minority ethnic backgrounds residing in Cambridgeshire and elsewhere in the UK, who are excluded from society, or parts of it. We do that by providing services, activities and events designed to prevent such families and individuals from becoming socially excluded or isolated, relieving their needs, and assisting them to integrate into society. Complexus specialises in assisting people with disabilities, families and individuals with complex social, medical, and/or housing needs, by promoting human rights, equality and diversity, religious or racial harmony, through activities that serve personal and community development, through advancing education for better employment prospects, as well as healthy living.
Our goal – Our team of trustees and professional volunteers bring together a wide range of expertise and lived experience to create activities, courses, support sessions, and community events that genuinely bring people closer to one another. Our top priority is to ensure that the members of our closer and wider community feel included, uplifted, and supported through difficult moments in their lives. We aim to provide safe spaces where people can grow in confidence, discover new abilities, and develop skills that offer fresh opportunities in work, education, or everyday life. Above all, our goal is to help each person feel a renewed sense of belonging and the reassurance that their journey matters.
Our vision – is to build a community where every individual, regardless of their background, ability, or circumstance, feels seen, valued, and empowered. We aspire to create a supportive environment in which people can reconnect with one another, rediscover confidence, and develop the skills that open doors to new opportunities. By fostering inclusion, understanding, and genuine human connection, we aim to shape a future in which hope, dignity, and belonging are accessible to all.
